Scientific area | New technologies |
Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) | SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable |
Target(s) to which it contributes | 9.1. Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all. 9.2. Promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and, by 2030, significantly raise industry’s share of employment and gross domestic product, in line with national circumstances, and double its share in least developed countries. 11.3. By 2030, enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries. |

The research is an industrial doctoral thesis by Marc Domingo, under the direction of Dr. Dr. Joan Arnedo Moreno and Xavier Vilajosana Guillen.
The thesis deals with the different limitations found in WSN to enable its deployment in new scenarios and facilitate the dissemination of the information obtained. At a low level, we focus on energy consumption, while at a higher level, we focus on the dissemination and security of information. We reduce the consumption of a single mote on networks with dynamic traffic patterns by defining a planning function based on the well-known PID controller and extending the life of a WSN globally by equally distributing the energy consumption of all motes, decreasing the number of interventions needed to change batteries and the associated cost. In order to promote the dissemination of information from a WSN, we have proposed jxSensor, a layer of integration between the WSN and the well-known P2P JXTA system. As we deal with sensitive information, we have proposed a layer of anonymity in JXTA and a lightweight authentication mechanism for its mobile version.
