The CONSOLIDER excellence network “ARES” should facilitate ongoing collaboration within a field of global research: security and privacy in smart cities. In order to do so, each group will share their experience in one or more specific aspects so that cooperative progress is made towards a common objective: to offer efficient and secure services that are compatible with the privacy of honest users. At the same time, the network will work so that the solutions developed are effectively transferred to society through techonology transfer between universities and relevant stakeholders. Another main objective of the network will be to promote the participation of the different groups in European initiatives, more specifically in the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme. Again, the experience of the groups that are currently participating in European projects should help other groups to explore the possibility of participating in proposals, either with other members of the network or independently. Network coordination will be chiefly carried out through biannual meetings between the main researchers of the groups involved, although specific meetings with focused objectives will be promoted between researchers of the different groups.
The main impact of the network will be to maintain the synergies created between the different groups during the ARES-CONSOLIDER project execution period. These synergies were fundamental for the majority of groups in order to grow, consolidate and improve their indicators. In this way it is expected that the contributions of the network are mainly in the form of new technologies that allow to take advantage of the characteristics of smart cities without endangering our individual privacy. From a social point of view, these technologies will allow the “Information Society” to be more respectful of the fundamental right to privacy, as set out in Article 12 of the Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations. These new technologies will be shared and published in several articles in international magazines and conferences.
